I pretty agree with Passages Malibu. Alcoholism, drug addiction and other form of addictions areĀ behavior disorders and are problem but not the main problem why people suffer from addiction. Addiction has been addicts way in handling disruptive stress they encountered in their lives.
It is innate in human beings that if we feel stress we are motivated for its reduction. Aggressive behavior, rigidity, withdrawal, and disorganized behavior are the basic reactions to stress. Stressful conditions like frustration, guilt, conflict, or anxiety, due to relationships problem, financial pressures, work pressures, and other demands or pressures in life could trigger some people to use drugs, alcohol and other forms of addiction in handling stress that are greater than the individual can deal with. But, some people could adjust more effectively on stressful situations. They become more motivated to learn and to achieve more of their aspirations through the stressful situations they went through.
We have different capacity in handling stress. That, there are people who can withstand stress better than the other. The best thing about Passages Malibu is that they help people who are suffering from addiction to cope with their underlying problems that lead them to addiction while dealing with their addiction problem and not just the addiction problem itself.

I remember the message our brother in church shared to us. It is about two kinds of FEARS. The first one is the cause and the other one is the remedy. And, what is the fears I am referring that may trigger health problems? Frustration, Envy, Anger, Resentment, and Sadness. These negative feelings could produce great changes on our normal body functioning. FEARS are emotional stress that could affect the functioning of the heart.
Holding back the anger could result to heart attack. Stress could elevate some hormones that raises blood pressure level and suppress the immune system. Stress could also cause muscle tension causing neck and back pains, and gastrointestinal and nervous system disturbance.
