Take Time to Check Your Posture

Have you taken some of your time to check your posture lately? Check yourself in front of a full length mirror. How does your posture look?

Poor posture may develop due to lack of exercise, overuse of some part of the body, rapid growth that cause the person to stoop to hide his true height, fatigue that may trigger a slumping position, discouragement or depression, and unbalanced diet that cause faulty diet and deformity. Our body shapes according to the position which we usually do, our position while we are lying down, sitting, standing, walking, and do some other activities.

Avoid slouching while sitting. Put a small pillow or any flat materialthat is 2-3 inches in thickness at your lower back while you sitting.Sit on both hips at the same timeto distribute your weight evenly. As much as posible, do not cross legs while sitting, it just doubles the stress on your spine and muscles. If you want to lean forward, bending from your hips than rounding your backand shoulders. Avoid prolonged sitting. The more often you change position (sitting, standing and walking), the better your posture will be.

Check out your posture. Experts says that the best thing you need to do is to keep your ears, shoulders, hips, knees and ankles in a straight line. Trying to maintain this good posture when standing will help you maintain it until old age.

This is such good advice, especially as we get into middle age. My mother used to make me walk around the house with five books stacked on my head so that I would learn proper posture as a teen. I think of that now and then when I realize I am slouching. Mom’s tips were good. The older I get, the smarter she wa, according to the old saying.
