Home Remedy for Head Lice Infestation

It is sunny day here today in our place. I am pretty sure children nowadays are still enjoying their summer vacation under the sun. Spending most of their time outdoor with their friends on the beach, kite flying on vacant lots and, or on playgrounds, and other outdoor activities. In times like these head lice infestation is not unusual to kids that triggers me to share to you today an effective herbal remedy for head lice infestation.

I myself have experienced such state during my childhood. Folks said, head lice and nits usually infest on summer days because of kids’ too much exposure to sunlight. Maybe they have a point but the real reason why I was infested with lice for few days is because of my too much bonding with my friends, we share combs and lie down on same bed for a midday naps. Imagine, a single size bed that accommodates 4 children for a power nap, you can compare us to sardines in a can. We are not doing it because there is no other place to rest to; we just love to do it. The great price of it is head lice infestation.

Thanks a lot to my understanding mom; she immediately rescued me and my friends from itchy lice before they multiplied. Eradicating those itchy lice and nits has been part of my play and bonding moments with my friends. My mom let us buy a gugo shampoo, 4 pieces fine combs, 8 pieces sugar apples and fresh grated coconut. She let us eat the 8 pieces of sugar apple (of course, not just in one setting) that day then let us pound the seeds and extract the oil from the grated coconut.

Here are the instructions she has given to us after pounding the seeds:

• To get rid the nits (lice eggs), we need to wet our hair with hot vinegar for at least 30 minutes before we shampoo our hair. Then, thoroughly comb our hair with fine comb.
• Shampoo your hair with gugo shampoo or any commercial shampoo and comb hair with fine comb thoroughly at least twice a day.
• Before my friends go home that afternoon, she let my friends bring with them the coconut milk/oil with ground sugar apples seeds to be applied before going to sleep. And instructed them to shampoo everyday then put an ample amount of vinegar at least 30 minutes before shampooing their hair.
• You need to do this every day until lice and nits are gone.

My mom encouraged my friends to tell their mothers what happened and, educate us not to borrow combs and sleep with kids that are infested with lice. She gave us commercial shampoo for head lice infestation. She let us experience the effectiveness of home remedy for head lice infestation compared to commercial shampoo for lice infestation. At least we have learned something that summer vacation. We have learned the importance of cleanliness and how effective home remedy is.
